BVS K 003: 3 Days Samburu

ABOUT

The Samburu Game Reserve is in a semi arid area where we find most of the rear Animals found in the north of the equator, a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Elephants and lions are also plentiful, and leopards are often seen. Accommodation in Samburu is luxurious, ranging from lodges to tented camps.

In case of Emergency, every one of our clients gets a free cover with AMREF Flying Doctors Evacuation service for the duration of the safari. In case of an accident or medical emergency, AMREF Flying Doctors will evacuate the injured or patient to a reputable hospital in Nairobi. This service though covers only rescue hence we recommend that you arrange for the necessary Travel/Medical Insurance at your home country before commencing your travel to Africa.

TRAVEL PLAN

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve. Approx transit time: 5 hrs

On Arrival, you will be met and welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our guide, after briefing drive north via Mt Kenya, past coffee plantations to Samburu National Reserve, set in the rugged semi-arid northern region with spectacular scenic landscape. The Ewaso Nyiro River dotted with doum palms meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting and the Lodges are set on the banks of the river, the flora and fauna with sparkling spring water flowing and cascading throughout the lodges grounds. The Samburus are cousins of the Maasai tribe and are pastoralists. Arrive in time for lunch at the Samburu Sarova Shaba Lodge. In the afternoon depart on an exciting game-viewing drive in search of game found only north of the equator that include the long necked gerenuk, Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx and the Somali ostrich. Return to Samburu Sopa Lodge Or Samburu Shaba Lodge. for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: {FB}

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu Game Reserve

Full day in Samburu, with an early morning and late afternoon game drive. Samburu is a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Optional activities include a visit to a local Samburu village, camel riding and guided nature and bird walks. All meals and overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. Meal Plan: {FB}

Day3: Samburu-Nairobi

On this day you will have your last early morning pre breakfast game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast, check out and depart for a scenic drive to Nairobi Drop off at your hotel or transfer to the airport for onward flight home.

Sarova Shaba Lodge, a luxurious lodge set in the “Born Free” country, where the glories of nature are concentrated in this semi-desert oasis. Spring water flows throughout the lodge to form beautiful water cascades and sparkle into the
Uaso Nyiro river, the habitat for crocodiles.

Unique to this area are reticulated giraffe, grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, beisa oryx and
the somali ostrich. The area also hosts lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos and leopards, other big game and over 100 species of birds.

You can watch from the safety of the viewing deck as crocodiles climb the river bank to feed. Early evening entertainment is provided by local Samburu dancers, who delight
and enchant with rhythmic dances. Dinner at the Sarova Shaba Lodge is served at the Surpelei Resturant.

2. Mid-Season: 01 – 30 June 2016.
3 . Low Season: 01 April – 31 May 2016

Prices include:

  • Transportation in a custom safari minibus with pop-up roof ideal for game viewing and sightseeing.
  • Services of a trained and experienced English speaking driver/guide
  • Full-board accommodation in the lodge/tented camp as mentioned
  • Bottled water for use during the safari
  • Game drives and all park entry fees.

Not included:

  • International air transportation to and from Nairobi
  • Expenses of personal nature such as visas, travel/baggage insurance, laundry, beverages, tips etc.
  • Christmas, New Year and Easter supplements.
