BVS K 017: 14 Days Masai Mara-Tsavo East

At Mount Kenya enjoy a hike to the Mau Mau caves in Mt. Kenya forest famous for the freedom fighters hideouts during the struggle for our independence. Proceed to Amboseli Nat. Park, a scenic and breathe taking destination with Mt. Kilimanjaro on your door step. Tsavo National Park. The 21,000 sq km park is one of the largest in the whole world. Due to its enormous size, this animal and plant heaven was divided into two parts Tsavo East and Tsavo West, for easy administration and management. This wilderness is home to over 1000 plant species, 400 bird species and more than 60 major mammal species such as lions, huge herds of buffalo, the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino and at least 7000 elephants. The park is the location of Africa's most famous adventure story "Man eaters of Tsavo", in which two lions where responsible for eating over 500 workers who were building the Uganda railway also known as the "Lunatic Line " by its opponents in the British Parliament in 1898. The story was made famous in the 1996 movie "The Ghost and the Darkness."

Accommodation during this Safari is a combination of Luxury Lodges, Tented Camps and Semi Luxury Camps.

Day 1: Nairobi -Maasai Mara Game Reserve
On Arrival, you will be met and welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our guide, after briefing, depart and drive across the floor the Rift Valley before mounting its western rim into Maasai land. Red-clad, with spears always on hand, Maasai warriors tend their herds of cattle among the wildlife, commendably unmoved by the presence of large predators. Afternoon you have the first game drive in search of wildlife. Maasai Mara is probably the best-known game reserve. Day 2: Full day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Take an extensive game drive into the reserve covered with rolling grasslands dotted with acacia and hazy forested hills and riverline bush where the Mara River and its tributaries meander,

Maasai Mara is considered by many to be Kenya's finest game reserve, the 1510 sq Kms of this reserve adjoin Tanzania's well-known Serengeti, forming one eco-system. The open rolling savannah grassland of the Mara is the home of numerous wildlife species including elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, jackal, buffalo, eland, topis, impala, gazelle, warthog and zebra. From June to September, the annual Wildebeest migration takes place when thousands of these animals sweep across the plain and seek out new grazing areas, a full day game drive with picnic lunch at the hippo pool on the banks of the Mara River were the crossing of the Gnus [wildebeests] takes place while the killer crocodiles awaits. Days 3: Full day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

This is another day out, a very early wake up call to prepare for exploring another different area of this park, this is to capture more actions and excitements, return to the camp for lunch,, afternoon at leisure, an evening game drive follows at 1600hrs. Day 4: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – L. Naivasha.

After breakfast proceed to Lake Naivasha - the highest and purest of the Great Rift Valley lakes. Lunch at the L. Naivasha Lodge after which we enjoy a refreshing boat cruise on the lake. This area is famous for its bird life - a breeding ground for pelicans, fish eagles, cormorants and more, proceed to the crescent island where you will have a whole afternoon guided walk safari within the many animals of the plains, it is one of the few places in Africa where you can wander on foot among herds of zebras, wildebeest, and giraffes (No predators no fences). Day 5: L. Naivasha - L.Bogoria and L.Baringo.

Break early in the morning after breakfast proceed to Lake Bogoria, it is a shallow soda lake hosting thousands of pink flamingoes, a number of other birds and lesser kudu. Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lake spurt and steam their alkaline waters. The bubbling of hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingoes feeding in the bluish water presents a rare scenic beauty. Proceed to Lake Baringo Robert’s camp for lunch. [Another ornithological paradise]. This is one of the two fresh water lakes in the rift valley and a bird watchers paradise; it has over 460 recorded bird species and home to hippos and crocodiles. Check in for lunch at L. Baringo camp of which the environment has plenty of information on the area bird life. After lunch proceed for a boat ride in the lake with a resident ornithologist. Day 6: L.Baringo – L. Nakuru National Park

Depart Lake Baringo after breakfast Arrive Lake Nakuru Park in time for lunch, an afternoon game drive. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds in the lake. Also many species of game found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Day 7: L. Nakuru National Park - Samburu Game Reserve.

After breakfast depart for Samburu Game Reserve set in the rugged semi-arid northern region with spectacular scenic landscape. The Ewaso Nyiro River dotted with doum palms meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting and the Lodges are set on the banks of the river, the fauna and flora with sparkling spring water flowing and cascading throughout the lodge grounds. We will visit a Samburu Manyatta (the Samburu are cousins of the Maasai tribe and are pastoralists) to see how the tribe lives in this harsh surrounding to arrive in time for lunch at the Lodge. In the afternoon depart on an exciting game-viewing drive in search of game found only north of the equator that include the long necked gerenuk, Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx and the Somali ostrich. Day 8: Full day in Samburu Game Reserve.

Full day in Samburu, a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy's zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and Reticulated Giraffe. Day 9: Samburu Game Reserve. – Mt. Kenya.
Depart Samburu after breakfast and drive to Nanyuki the base town of Mt. Kenya, Check in at Falcon Height Hotel for Lunch, after lunch depart for a gamedrive at the private sanctuary including a visit to Baraka the tamed blind rhino, the information centre and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Day 10: Mt. Kenya Nat. Park - Amboseli Nat. Park.

Depart from the lodge after breakfast for Amboseli, arriving Amboseli Nat. Park in time for an evening game drive at 16.00hrs. Picnic lunch enroute. This park is especially known for its prolific elephant population, and the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro setting. It is a home for the wet land birds since the park is dominated by swamps. Day 11: Full day in Amboseli.

Full day in Amboseli with game drives at 0630 hrs and 1600 hrs. Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, is one of Kenya's most popular national parks. It lies 150 miles south-east of Nairobi, very close to the Tanzania border. The snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli. On day 16, a pre breakfast game drive returning in the camp for breakfast, the rest of the day at leisure, enjoy an afternoon swimming before proceeding for an evening game drive at16.00hrs. Day 12: Amboseli Nat. Park -Tsavo West .

Day 13: Tsavo west- Tsavo East

Day 14: Tsavo East – Nairobi

After a pre-breakfast, return to the lodge for breakfast and then proceed to Nairobi/ Mombasa.
